Tammy911.com - About Us

For those who are new to this website, you can check out the article that started all this here.

In early January 2008, Debbie Duncan (Hemming) thought it would be a very good idea to start a website to support the goal of her friends, Don and Betty Michalsky (pronounced "ma-how-skie"), of getting our 9-1-1 service 'fixed'. Debbie believed it was necessary to get knowledge to the public regarding the events surrounding the death of Don & Betty's daughter, Tammy Lee Ellis, and the overall problems with our 9-1-1 service.

Shortly after, Debbie contacted Gordon Michael Clark, her favorite web designer, to start work on the project.

On January 10th, Don started a hand written petition, with the guidance of East Kootenay MLA, Bill Bennett.

The petition was designed for the purpose of convincing the Chief Coroner to call a Coroner's Inquest into the events surrounding Tammy's death - with the anticipated outcome of making drastic changes to how and where our 9-1-1 service operates. Don's goal is to have the 9-1-1 dispatch returned to Cranbrook from where it's currently located in Kelowna. That is the primary purpose of this website and all related efforts.

On January 11th, the website went live after four sleepless days of work with only the basic structure, news area, petition and guestbook up and running. Originally scheduled for a launch much later, it was necessary to start the on-line version of the petition in conjunction with the hand written one. It was also anticipated that CTV's W-FIVE would be doing a story and it was felt the website would be an integral part of that story. Ironically, when the episode was finally aired in April, the website was not mentioned. The initial web design and structure was completed by mid February, although new features have been added (and removed) since and the changes are continuing.

Debbie maintained the website from the day it launched until late March, when she moved out of the area. Gord has been looking after it ever since.

With new features and content being added continually, it is our hope that we can provide an information source for the people of the East Kootenays to relay the problems and possible solutions regarding our 9-1-1 dispatch dilemma.

A major thank-you goes to Debbie Duncan for starting the ball rolling by having this website designed.

Special thanks to Mike Turner for providing all his video footage from December 2007 to present. We'd also like to thank Alex Campbell and Lowell Threinen for the use of their video equipment when Gord's just wouldn't 'do it'.

A big hug goes to Lynn Neelin for hanging in there and helping with the petitions as well as all her other added support.

All email correspondence for Don & Betty Michalsky, Lynn Neelin, Gord, or anyone else directly involved with this project may be directed to info@tammy911.com.
