9-1-1 Stories...We're right here!
By Ingrid S., Cranbrook POSTED: January 20th, 2008I would like to tell you briefly what happened last month. I was comming out of the hair salon in the Tammarack mall, when someone yelled call 911 a lady is having a heart attack. Somone called, from the hair salon and I went to the van that the lady was sitting in. they 911 kept asking where we were located. I said tell them we are in the parkin lot by the Winners entrance. I tried to calm the lady and her daughter down, making sure she kept breathing, and trying to let her know help was on the way. We could hear the ambulance in the distance, but it was going the wrong direction. We had to flag it down to get it to where we were. We were very clear on our location. I think the paramedics must be frustrated to be sent to the wrong area knowing that someone may be dying. Those precious minutes are the difference between life and death. We have a unique community in that you really have to live here to know where something is. But really this was a no brainer and I was very upset that the ambulance did not go where we had directed it. |
