9-1-1 Stories...911 no answer
By Lesley, Cranbrook POSTED: January 19th, 2008I live in Cranbrook. Around the end of December 2007, I was in my back garden with my daughter when we heard a couple of shots (which sounded like an air gun), followed by the sound of a dog yelping as if in pain. There was one more shot, then immediate silence. I phoned 911 and heard a recorded message telling me all operators were busy. I dialled again and heard the same message. A 911 operator called me back 45 minutes later! By then, I'd called the local RCMP non-emergency number, and an officer called me shortly afterwards to check out the facts and to say he was patrolling in the area.
This situation obviously is not comparable to the tragedy of Tammy's death, and her friends' terrifying experience, but I wanted to register my support for the campaign to have the emergency service reinstated locally. |
