I had occasion to call 911 for an elderly friend when I arrived to find her laying on the floor in distress.

While the operator was very helpful. She was not familiar with Cranbrook at all. In retrospect I would know this but at the time I didn't give it a second thought. I was simply concerned that the ambulance arrive to take care of my friend.

Anyone from Cranbrook would have been familiar with the location but in this case it took precious seconds to locate the address and explain the location. Fortunately all turned out well but here is another example of the end of community. As things become more global they become less personal as well.
