9-1-1 Stories...I'm in Cranbrook. Where?
By James, Cranbrook POSTED: January 10th, 2009"On Saturday, January 10, 2009, around 10am I needed to call 9-1-1 about a domestic dispute that was happening under my own roof. My girlfriend and I were having some problems. As things got out of hand, I told her I'd call the police and they were well aware of the problems we were having and had previously mentioned they'd remove her if the problems continued. When my level of tolerance had been reached, I picked up the phone to call 9-1-1. It's a good thing lives were not at stake here because I sat on hold for 35 minutes waiting to talk to a real person. As if that wasn't bad enough, after being put through to the RCMP the dispatch operator, after asking where I was calling from and me responding with 'Cranbrook,' asked me where 'that' was.
I've heard about the problems with our 9-1-1 service but really didn't believe it was as bad as some were saying. If this were a life or death situation, I've no doubt somebody would have died and that is purely unacceptable!! The horrible thing is at some point it will be for somebody and if things don't change, the 9-1-1 people will have another death on their hands they won't be able to wash away so easily."
